2021 Exit King (Kong) By Myriam Laureano

As a person exits our life we wonder about so many things and we try to explain to ourselves what it was all about.  Everyone feels they need to come to terms with what it all meant in terms of the impact that the relationship offered during its prime time existence.

Sometimes we need to eulogize a time frame, like a four year presidential term, in order to impeach the left over bad taste we may have in our mouth about the whole term.  What the fk happened to our sense of right and wrong, true and false, real and fake? To be fair to what is left of the concept of REALITY we may need to pause and take a break.  We need to learn to do sense making again.

Like all endings it reminds us of ‘death’ itself.  We experience a sense of release and a loss that goes deep into our believe systems  and questions that life itself is always triggering in us. Right now we in the United States finished watching the last episode of an American election that felt like a traumatic episode triggered by a biblical worse case scenario.  We elected a president that was anointed by a group of  Christian fundamentalists in the white house whose primary purpose is to bring their end of days agenda to the American main stream culture and policy makers.  This ego driven Kong decided to become a King and not a president.  Since he was anointed and told that Jesus wanted him to carry out this fundamentalist agenda, he felt he could do that better than anyone ever.  He took it to his worshipers and all ran off to become the saviors of our ‘decadent society’. Needless to say all other friends and enemies of money and power driven factions jumped on the ‘us and them’ wagon and off we went to making America Kong again.

The great news is that we found out that America is basically half fundamentalist and half NOT.  It will take many years of meaning making to figure out what this phenomenon is.  Another good news is that these fundamentalists are always praying for their will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.  In my understanding of prayer when we pray we ask God to do what is right according to God’s spiritual ‘right’.  So, after the election we are free of this King Kong and now we are still living with what creates so much hate and low level thinking.  Both parties have similar ways of thinking.  We are forced to vote for the lesser of the two evils and that we have not changed yet.

So, the eulogy we can come up with will be all over social media, main stream media, the pulpit and the writings that will follow.  We lost a lot but we also lived this experience during a pandemic, a change in journalism, global ecological crisis, economic disparities and more.  We have some fundamental changes to make and it doesn’t include embracing fundamentalism.  We need to transcend what doesn’t work and think deeply about how to do meaning making TOGETHER. We have to stop worshiping our believe systems and our leaders. We have to stop using biblical stories to interpret next political steps and second guessing God’s will.
